Anastrozole (Arimidex)

Anastrozole (Arimidex) is the aromatase inhibitor of choice among many bodybuilders. It is considered a type 2 non-steroidal inhibitor. As such it will temporarily stop the the action of the aromatase enzyme. It is much more potent than SERM’s like Clomid or Nolvadex. Since it is so potent it is most commonly used on-cycle when a large amount of aromatizing steroids are being used. It is also useful in combatting gynocomastia when it shows up.

Arimidex works differently from SERM’s. Instead of blocking the receptors for estrogen it blocks the conversion of aromatizable steroids to estrogen. In this way it eliminates estrogen from the users body. In fact it often eliminates estrogen too well. If you are going to use Arimidex for longer than 1 week I recommend that you monitor your blood estrogen level to determine proper dosing. You don’t want to completely eliminate estrogen, just reduce it.
