Branched chain amino acids have been proven to be beneficial for muscle growth and the building up of body bulk. A greater part of the benefits brought about by this form of amino acid is because of the fact that it can be absorbed by the muscle cells directly. There is no need for it to pass through the digestive system and the bloodstream. It can go straight to the muscle cells that need them. That is why it is recommended that you take BCAA supplements before and after a heavy weight training workout when the muscles are hard at work. The BCAA that you intake can be used by the muscle cells right away.

Initially it was believed that the use of BCAA is perfectly safe and that it has no ill effects on the body, but like with any food supplement there is always the possibility of side effects. Plus the fact that everyone is not the same and we all might have different reactions to the supplement. Further research and reports of people who have been using BCAAs have confirmed that its use does bring in some side effects.

For some people the use of BCAA can cause to feel fatigue and some have reported loss in body coordination. These effects are the reason why it is not advised that people use BCAAs before an activity like driving where coordination is required. People who are suffering from particular diseases are not advised to take BCAA. Patients who suffer from Lou Gehrig’s disease or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis can suffer from lung failure if BCAA is ingested into their body. These are just some of the known BCAA side effects.

You can also check on my other health and fitness articles. I have written articles on the proper way of losing body fat and some Zerona reviews.

N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC) is the N-acetyl derivative of the protein amino acid L-cysteine. NAC is used as a nutritional supplement or as the drug paracetamol in Europe. NAC is not present in the diet and must be obtained via dietary supplementation.

Along with glutamic acid and glycine, N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC) is a direct precursor to the powerful free radical scavenger glutathione. Glutathione is present in every living cell in the body. Blood levels of glutathione are diminished during and following any anaerobic event i.e. intense exercise.

In addition to protecting the body from oxidative damage resulting from normal metabolism and environmental toxins, NAC has shown positive effects on liver function, protecting the liver from heavy metals like lead and mercury.

Side effects that can occur with NAC use at high doses include nausea, headache, vomiting, dizziness, and abdominal pain.

NAC may lead to the excretion of zinc and copper – metals required for proper hormone function, so be sure to supplement with these minerals if you use NAC.

NAC tolerance is generally excellent in most users and NAC is not known to be contraindicated with any dietary supplements or prescription drug products.

Glutathione (gamma-L-glutamyl-L-cysteinyl-glycine) is a peptide (short protein)-like molecule synthesized in the body from the three amino acids L-glutamic acid, L-cysteine, and glycine. Glutathione is one of the body’s most important and powerful antioxidants. A major function of vitamin C is to keep glutathione in its reduced form so that they can continue to provide free radical quenching effects.

Glutathione helps the body fight almost any disease, because it is a powerful antioxidant that helps maintain cellular health and helps prevent oxidative stress. Glutathione has been heavily researched, and the findings on this substance have been nothing short of amazing.

Glutathione is essential for immune system function and muscle growth, and any athlete who is glutathione deficient will suffer from decreased performance and a lack of muscle growth.

Hard training is known to deplete glutathione levels. Thus, the hard-training athlete can benefit especially from glutathione supplementation and the enhanced recovery and muscle building results seen from its use.

Many published studies show that garlic, selenium, alpha-lipoic acid, L-cysteine, and N-acetyl-cysteine can boost cellular glutathione levels.

Dietary sources of glutathione and glutathione precursors include meats, fish. fruits, vegetables, avocado, walnuts and asparagus. Glutathione precursors are also found in whey protein concentrate.
